SPEEDWAY RACING

CHAMPIONSHIPS TO-NIGHT,

Claims to the title of New Zealand speedway champion will be decided for the first time ou record at the Kilbirme Stadium Speedway to-night, and "with strong representation from the centres in which the sport has been established it is expected that the contests for supremacy will be thrilling. Special attention has ;.een- given to the track, and this should enable the riders—from Auckland, Christckureh, Dunedin, and Wellington— to give o£ their best, while it should also be to the advantage of Frank Pearce, the note! Australian, in his attempt^to break the record now held by C. Spinks. The attack on the record will be made at 8 o'clock, immediately after which the heats of the New Zealand championship contest will be decided. Auckland and Christchurch each have three riders competing, and Dunedin has a worthy representative in 11. Miingham. The Aucklanders are A. Mattson, W. Allen, and A. Way, and those from Christchurch K. R. Marsh, N. Gray, and W. Thomas, while Wellington's representatives will be W. Kilmister, T. Wilkinson, E. Naylqr, W. B. Harvie, and C. Tonks. A special match event, with F. Pearce and K. Blake the participants, should be spectacular and thrilling, and there should also be much stirring racing in the open- handicap. The programme includes a novelty event. Other information regarding the meeting is published elsewhere in this issue.
