LIGHT HARNESS RACING

The- Cup Handicap.

•followers of the light harness section of racing will now have plenty to interest tnein m conning over the Trotting Cup handicaps. The horses, of course, will be divided into two divisions, which will be drawn by lots on 31st October, so that for the present the event will have to be discussed^ as a whole. The handicap has been trained to give the back-markers every .chance, particularly now that the holds m the divisions and final will be small. Ahuriri is being selected generally as most favourably treated, but Dundas Boy,, who went 4min 22 3-osec, and Logan Park, 4min 22 1-osee, at Arlington in August, are going to set those behind them something to do, for they are handicapped' on 4min 26sec. Kingcraft, the early favourite, for some reason has gone out of' favour, but those who watched him carefully at the August Meeting at Addington,- and timed liis last mile and a half, will have him on their side. Padlock, being placed back with Great Bingen has. obviously paid the penalty for his three s vm AuSu?f. It is what might be called a flattering handicap, and although on past performances Ahuriri is well treated, he may have some trouble with the best of the younger sr>t on the limit, of whom Kingcraft and Dundas Boy appeal. : The Trotting Cup this year, run under the new conditions, should arouse ■keener interest than ever. Tomkinson's Team. , Tomkirison's team, including Coneliff, Logan. Park, Hinkler, Dalmeny, Lingfield, Wah, Country. King, Wilma Dillon, and Prince, Pointer, all did useful work on Tuesday, and are in capital health. Their trainer is laid aside at present owing to trouble, with his eyes, from which To'mkinson suffers a good deal. His fine staff ot- ;ass»tants,.. however, are attending to the A trauiing work satisfactorily during his enforced absence from the training track. Northern Cup Horses.

Auckland province has contributed Jewel- .Pointer, Peter Bingen, and Gold Jacket to the New Zealand Cup nominations.. Jewel Pointer can be counted out tor the present, and beyond the fact that i»eter Bingen looked in great order when he raced in June to undergo a Cup preparation, nothing is known about last year's Cup winner. Gold Jacket, on the other hand, is at Epsom, and L MMahon has the black gelding going in great style. With a race or two. at the Auckland Meeting next month, Gold Jacket should be right at the top' of his form m . November, and though1 it will mean a great performance to survive a heat and final, the Aucklander is, in- addition to being good, one of the hardy sort, able to stand two solid races. Aucklanders will also be interested in Dundas Boy, because the chestnut, although, trained in the boutk by E. Berry, is owned by the popular j£ueklander, Mr. Geo. M'Millan. Misqgllanequs.

_J> J-.Kennerley will race a team at the Vyelhngton Trotting Club's Meeting early next month, and then go on to Christchurch.for the big November Meeting. His team will probably be Peter Bingen, laßt years Cup winner, Vendome, and the trotter Rose Bingen. , It; is reported that the Cup candidate, -Lankman, has never looked better. He seems to relish plenty of hard work, and will have to be reckoned with in the big race if he goeß on as he is at present. .Elzear is trotting in great style in her training work, and, although she is on a tight mark, should win races this season, hue is usually worked with the pacers, and never- looks like making any mistakes .in her work.
