CENTURY HURDLES.

Aberfeldy was a pronounced favourite, with Pouri and Hed Fuchsia easily the best backed of the others. Red Fuchsia, Aberfeldy, and Perle de Leon led on terms over 1 the first fence, and then Aberfeldy and. Perle de Leon drew right away, leading over a round from Red Fuchsia, who was ! followed after another appreciable gap by !ia group composed of Vexatious, Pouri, iMatu/and Braeman. Red Fuchsia went ;up arid joined the leaders five furlongs i'i'vom home, and soon after Aberfeldy |; dropped out of it beaten, and Pouri went, fin pursuit of the pair iv front. Perle de !-3.ieon and Ked Fuchsia raced on terms : 'over the last two fences, Red Fuchsia gam-: ■•ing the upper hand,at the last and holdSing off Per!e de Leon by half a length. ) Pouri was three lengths away tKird, with w-Braeman fourth, Aberfeldy fifth,' and ■ Matu and Vexatious next. Red Fuchsia',. more seasoned, and probably handled to. greater, advantage, was. 'too good for Perle de Leon. The latter van a fine race; however, and if he does jiQt win one of the big hurdle races tins •winter it will be surprising. Pouri improved a good deal on his first day display, but was outclassed. Braeman was sticking on and he will be a payable horse tliis ■winter. Aberfeldy looked a -trifle big. and }ie ran like it, and there is not much doubt, he will be a litter horse at Elletslie. GRANDSTAND STEEPLECHASE. Puwhero was always favourite, with -Peter Jlaxwell a good second choice, and ■ plenty of support'for Maunga. Puwhero was soon in front, am! led down the straight from Mixed Heather, -'.Royal Heather, Peter Maxwell, Polyphemus, Passin' Through, and Maunga. Polyphe'mua fell at the first of the double the next time round, where Puwhero led ilixed Heather, Maunga, Passin' Through, Peter Maxwell; and Son o' Miue. Son o" Mine improved going down the back, •where Maunga' jumped two fences badlyf • and went back. Puwhero led to the last ifence clear of. Mixed Heather. Son o-' Mine, ■ Maunga, Peter Maxweil, and Passin' -Through. Peter Maxwell broke down on landing over the last fence, which Puwhero jumped well, and .came on to win by three-quarters of a length'from Mixed Heat/her. Son o' Mine was threev lengths ''away third, with Maunga fourth. Passin' Through,' Royal Heather, and Risk followed at intervals. Puwhero, as usual, (gave a great display of jumping,'.his only semblance of a mistake- being at the second last fence, -which for some unaccountable reason all -jumped, badly. Mixed Heather was not .handled to such great advantage as the winner, and possibly he should have won. .Son o' Mine continues to run fair races, and he might win a minor jumping race at any.'timer- Maunga was finishing on again, and he was not disgraced. Pasain' ThrouMi was beaten a long'way from home. Peter Maxwell was very lame when led in, and he looked a real cot • case, and can be dismissed for this jump- - ing season. EMPIRE HANDICAP. ■ Glenross ■ was a pronounced favourite, with Paitonii easily second choice. Day 'Guard and Lin Arlington led down the •straight from Partaga, Bonogne, Glenross, ■■mid Blimp. At ,tlie six-furlong., post Day -■Guard'showed the way to Lm Arlington, s v Bonogne, Blimp, Partaga, Beaumont, GapJain Gazcley, and Glenross. -Crossing "the ,top Paitonu moved up round his field, ami .Blimp dropped back, otherwise there was 'little change. Bonognn- led into the 'straight from Paitonu, Day Guard, Lan- .; 'tain- Gazeley, Lin Arlington, Glenross, and

Partaga. Paitonu ran into the lead with ease, and Barry allowed him to slow up. with the result that Bay Guard, finishing on, failed to beat him on the post by only a nose. Bonogne was three-quarters of a length away third, with Beaumont fourth, and Glenross, Captain Gazeley, and Black Mint were next. Paitonu finished over the last half-mile particularly well, and is in gre.at buckle at present. Bay Guard ran a solid race, and beat Bonogne home from the turn, at which point Bonogne was apparently holding him. > Beaumont again ran a solid race, and is one to remember for Otaki, and Glenross, too, is one to consider very seriously from now on. Captain Gazeley went a particularly good race, but Black Mint was again bothered by the turns. Partaga and Blimp were disappointing. FAREWELL HACK HANDICAP. Callanmore and Keddar were nearly equally backed, with good money "for Fee Simple. Callanmore, Chelone, and Eka led out of the barrier, from Eka, Fee Simple, arid Argue. Chelone and Callanmore showed the way across the top to Eka, Fee Simple, and Keddar. Chelone, Keddar, and Callanmore were on terms at the turn, with Fee Simple and Eka handy, Keddar strode to the front in the run' in and won by a length and a half. Callanmore beat Chelone by a nose for second, with Fee Simple, fourth and Eka and Argue next. Keddar scored in rather good style, and he has, been the model of consistency. He must be out .of hacks now. Callanmore just- lasted long enough to beat Chelone, who was improved by his race on the first day. Fee Simple just failed. WINTER OATS HANDICAP. The final event was the citstomavy good betting race, . with' Tea Time favourite, carrying twice as much money as the eventual winner, Moa Bird, whose dividend was substantial. Tea Time,' on the inside, jumped out first from Silvermine, Lady's Boy, Limited, Covent Garden, and Miss Pat. Tea Time lost his place at .the end of two furlongs, and Lady's Boy went on from' Silvermine. Tea Time, Limited. Miss Pat, Covent Garden. Arrow Lad had run up handy crossing the top, otherwise there was little change. Silvermine held the early leaders in the run-in, then Arrow Lad put in his claim, but Moa Bird, on the outside, shot out . seven yards from home and came on to win by two lengths from Arrow Lad, who beat Silvermine by half a length. Tea Time, Covent Garden, Lady's* Boy, and Bonogne were next. •Moa Bird, as usual, began slowly, but she made up her ground brilliantly, and won really impressively. Arrow Lad was the unlucky runner, and it looked as if he should have won, for he struck trouble and was drawn No. 12 at the barrier. Silvermine and Tea Time both ran decent races, and Covent Garden and Lady's Boy were always in the picture. Royal Damon } was not able to unwind his usual run. Limited failed to finish on even with only. 7.11, a 51b apprentice allowance" being claimed for him. i Results :— Rata Hack Hurdle Handicap, of 170 soys: one mile and a half.—o Hymestrason. 9.0, 1; 1 Mister Gamp, 10.13, 2; 10 Glengariff, 9.0, 3.
