CITIZENS' WAR MEMORIAL
(To the Editor.) Sir. —The announcement of the decision of the War Memorial Citizens' Committee to abandon negotiations for the Kent terrace site and revert to the Lambtou "'quay one for the memorial has given grave concern to the large and growing number of citizens who have become intimately interested in the subject. The silence in the last day or two must not be taken by any means as an indication of acquiescence—far from it. Rather a pall lias conic over the situation, and there is a feeling of deep disappointment. Citizens and subscribers alike appreciate _ the difficult position they are placed in because of a desire to acknowledge- the service of a good committee. Is there no way at all available to us to amicably induce the committee we set up to carry out 'our wishes? Cannot the Mayor or Mr. Coates, or somebody save the position? Must the subscribers to the fund remain silent because of. the sanctity of the object? The Kent terrace site has been abandoned, but we do not understand why. May I appeal for an opportunity for a decision by the people whose property the memorial is? —I am, etc., CITIZEN.
