SEATOUN DEFEATED.
Thistle defeated Seatoun on No. 2 ground at the Basin Reserve by 2 goals to 1 in a game Avhich was not marked by bright play. The teams Avere: — ' Thistle: Fletcher, Jack. Hopper, M'Lcllan, Lothian, Hanlon, Smith, Campbell, Montgomery Cunningham, Houeymau. Seatoun: Wyatt, Newton, Duffill, B. Grimstone, KershaAV, M'Wilhams, N. Grimstone, Tucker, Telford, Greig, Smyth The early stages of the game produced little in the way of good football. Ihe sides were fairly evenly matched, and though Thistle showed better combination their work lacked finish. On the other hand, Seatouu defended admirably, the work of the backs being particularly good. Neither side enjoyed much of an advantage in the first half, though when the Avhistle blew, Seatoun were leading, 1-0, the result of a penalty shot taken by KershaAV. . , . .. Thistle kicked off and pressed immediately, but the Seatoun defence was sound, and soon play Avas transferred to the other end of the field. Seatoun were awarded the penalty within the first ten minutes or so of the commencement of the game. Telford was responsible for some nice Avork. He transferred to Smyth on the wing, and tho latter shot well, butllletcher saved. A few minutes later, Wyatt was called on to save a hot shot from
the wing, sent in by Honeyman. The goalie just managed to get his fingers to the ball, which he tipped over the net for a corner. Thistle maintained. the pressure, and a long shot from Campbell, from a good position, went high over the bar. Campbell and Montgomery combined well, ami another shot from the latter struck tlie side of the net. Not long afterwards Montgomery had an excellent opportunity, but his shot, taken from close quarters, travelled across the goalmouth. Good work by Lothian gave Campbell another opportunity, but the shot was saved by Wyatt, who, before half-time was called, saved another shot from Cunningham. The second half was all Thistle's, and although the team netted only two goals, they missed half-a-dozen excellent opportunities of scoring. Montgomery scored from a corner, and Lothian registered the winning goal when Thistle were awarded a penalty. The winners decidedly had the best of the game, and on the day's play should have finished with a bigger margin in their favour. Mr. F. Sanders was the referee.
