.TO-NIGHT'S. TOURNEY.
_ Great interest js being shown locally in the boxing tournament which is boing held at the Town Hall this evenine in an endeavour to raise funds to assist Jack Crowley, a, young amateur who recently met with a very serious accident. _ Fourteen decision amateur contests m winch tho best local talent is appearing, have been arranged by tho organiser, Mr. Dorrie Leslie, and some interesting bouts should be witnessed In addition, • three well-known professionals, Jimmy Hill, R e g Trowevn, and George Cui-ran, will h% seen in'acHon in no-decision contests. A very modest charge of one shilling is being made for admission, and it is likely that tho hall will be crowded to its utmost capacity. J-fle tret contest is timed to start at 7 30 o clock.
Jimmy Hill, the Australian lightweight boxer, is probably.the most popular exponent seen in Wellington for many years, and his contest with Baxter m March last will'he long remembered among local followers of the sport. On that occasion he was almost from the start of the contest by an injured hand. He reports himself as in great fettle, and his reappearance on Tuesday, the 16th, is being looked forward to with more than usual interest. His opponent is young Trowern, of Auckland, who was seen here in the final of the New Zealand amateur championships in a sensational bout with Lovendge, of Taranaki. Since then he has fought 3 close contest with Purdy scored an easy victory over Riekards at Uisborne, and fought a drawn battle with Baxter. The box plan will open on Wednesday morning.
