MARKET.

An official announcement in regard to control of ..wheat supplies has been made on behalf of the. Government;,' '

In or,der to avoid being concerned in the wheat trade longer than is necessary, and agreeable to the expressed wish of interested parties to secure their own supplies, the Government will, from November onward, leave the market to be supplied wholly by the . operations of merchants and brokers. In order that supplies of imported fowl wheat may, if necessary, come in at the lowest possible cost, the duty (other than primage duty) on wheat will be suspended until 28th February, 1925, and permits for the importation (after 30th November) of quantities of wheat limited to current requirements will be issued to merchants by the- Customs Department. To provide for immediate requirements ahead the Government has "' just released in Wellington and Auckland -the substantial quantity of• 80,000 bushels of wheat for-poultry food. A similar quantity will be offered to merchants in Auckland and Wellington (on the basis of previous monthly requirements) towards the end of October.. The prices for this shipment, which will be the last sold on Government account to merchants, will be,6s 9d per bushel, sacks in, ex wharf Auckland and Wellington.
