NATURALISED GERMANS
NOT INTERFERED WITH BY THE POLICE.
"A Britisher" writes: "... It has just come under my notice in connection with the present war that Germans who have been naturalised British subjects for' the past twenty years and who are loyal British subjects are now sorted out and treated as aliens. They are compelled to report themselves to the police every, day and must not be out later, than 9 p.m. This is surely very hurting^to tho pride of any self-respecting citizen, and would not have the effect of inspiring loyalty. If nationalised foreigners can be treated in this manner I would be pleased if you would explain to me the benefits to be derived from nationalisation." A Post reporter made enquiries at police headquarters in connection with the above allegation and was officially informed that it was baseless. It was emphatically denied that naturalis««l Germans (provided they could show their papers) were interfered with in any way. None of the Germans on Somes Island or on parole, it was stated, had naturalisation papers. At present between forty and fifty unnaturalised Germans have to report themselves to the police at regular intervals.
