Tho Masterton Chamber of Commowo has passed a resolution recording its high aporeciation of the aorvicee rendered to the Masterton district by the Jate Mr. H. S. AVardell. General Godley, C.8., Captain Spencer Smith, and Colonel Cosgrove, of Christchurch, head of the Boy Scouts in the Uominion, arrived in Wellington from the South yesterday. The PriiuepMinister (the Hon., T. Mackenzie), the Hons. A. M. Myers, G. Lauronson, G. "W. Russell, J. A. Hsuian, and H. G. Ell, are in Wellington to-day. Tho Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald is due to arrive from Napier this evening. Mr. Charles Blackweli, who died at Marton on Thursday night, aiter a long and painful illness, was seventy years of age. He was born at Eostone, Oxford, England, and came to New Zealand in 1862. Soon after his arrival he took up land at Greatford, where he resided for about thirty-five years, but of late years ho lived in Marton. He was a Maori war veteran, took part in the Parihaka expedition, and served in tho old Koyul Rifles, , Marten. ' A call has been extended by the Masterton Congregational Church to the Rev. 'I. G. Butler, who has been supplying ■the pulpit of the church for the last three months. The Rev. Mr. Butler, who has accepted the call, was ordained at Ballarat (Victoria) seven yearu ago, after having been five years at the "Victorian Congregational College. Mr. Butler came to New Zealand three years a£o and took charge of the Ctngregahonal Church at Maangatui-oto (North Auckland). ,
