Wilhelm Richter, who pleaded guilty to (1) theft of a bicycle at Eketahuna, and (2) theft of a watch, chain, and match-box, was remanded on the application of Sub-Inspector Phair to Friday next. George Leitch, on remand, charged with obtaining a sum of money •from the post office authorities under false pretences, was further remanded to 21st August. Bail, self £100 and two sureties £50, was allowed. To a charge of disorderly conduct while drunk, Albert James pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspec-tor Phair stated that accused yesterday evening created a disturbance in the Opera House, and refused to leave quietly. His Worship, Mr. W. P. James, S.M., said theatre-goers must be protected, and fined accused £5, with the Option of 14 days' imprisonment. Two women — May Cronin and Louie •Eastbury — appeared before Mr. W. P. James, S.M., this morning charged with threatening Mrs Kcm Sing with personal violence. The persons concerned ' a^e residents of Haining^street. Evidence addnced showed that the two defendants who, it was alleged, are obnoxious neighbours in thai locality, maltreated the plaintiff; and having been ejected from the tatter's house, threatened to "wait for her."' After an amusing and searching cross-examination, conducted by one of the defendants, the accused were bound over to keep the peace for six months, one bond of £10 being ordered. , A counter charge against Kern Sing ' for alleged assault was dismissed. iMr. Wilford appeared for complainant in the first case. An elderly -woman, Mary Payne, was convicted on a charge of being unlawfully on the premises 'at the Kelburne Kiosk, and was discharged. Two first-offending inebriates were dealt with, one being convicted and discharged on payment of costs 21s ; the other being convicted and fined 10s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. The premises of Messrs. Veitch and 'Allan, Cuba-street, will be closed all day to-morrow for the purpose of marking down- stock for their stocktaking sale, which begins on Thursday and lasts for 10 days.
