TOMORROW'S RACING WELLINGTON SUMMER MEETING.

TRENTHAM TRAINING NOTES. The summciy conditions were supplanted this morning by heavy grey clouds and a biting wind blew fiercely down the course, making the tasks of tho men of observation particularly unpieasant. Although the indications pointed to ram none descended at Trentham. As if customary on the morning preceding Cup Day work was more or less of a sprinting ordcr^ but several of tho horses performed oven tin.- light demands upon them so excellently as to make tho principal event 6 tc-morrow bear an exceedingly open appearance. All the Cup acceptors, with the exception of Maniapoto — who has been scratched for nil engagements at the meeting — were on the track. The fastest gallop of the morning was credited to Ana who, carrying little R. Young (abcut 5.7), jumped off from the mile i fest, and, going with great resolution,] completed the distance in lmin 42isec. Apa is a sturdier looking horse now than he- was twelve months ago, when j this somewhat unlucky bay Gon of Ad- ] dington acted as runner-up to Achilles. Zimmerman (F. D. Jones) had Sir Tristram (L. Wilson) for companion i'l a gallop over seven furlongs, which occupied lmin 31sec, with the Cup horsa slightly in front at the finish. This wt.* a slashing gallop. If rain should fall in the meantime at Trentham it should benefit the Auckland Cup winner by taking the bone out of tho ground. Tangimoana. who won ths Rangitikei Cup with 8.6 in the saddle, carving out tbf mile and a quarter against a strong wind in 2min llsec, was couplod with Splendid Idea in a bout of .'even furlongs. Mr. Buick's lengthy bay marewas always going the better of the pair, and was not bustled to run the'distance in lmin 32Asec, Splendid Idea, being half a length away. Lapland did six furlongs with hie full-brother Helianthes, finishing really well in lmin 19sec— -good time for a lazy track horse. Mystification (George Price) easily accounted for Chatterer i-i a dash of over five furlongs done in Imin ssei\ Moloch had Culmination to bring him along over half a mile, which took 53sec. Downfall, on his own, shaped attractively in a half-mile spin ip 50sec, and tho symmetrical "circus horse" is evidently in /great heart. The Rand c.intcred on the tan, whilst Gold Crest u>l two solid rounds on tho grass, pullin.; hard for his head. Clanchattan and Saga did useful pacing. All the Telegraph Handicap horses, except FhII Rate, who arrives to-day, ■w.sre seen out. Perhaps the best performance was that of King Billy and Moriarty who ran four furlongs in 49 3-ssec. - King Billy (with a light, boy) had much the best of tho argument, although his mate carried by far tho ,gioater weight. Moriarty blew a good aeal on being "pulled up. Petrovna dashed over the same distance in a saeond slower lime ; this old mare move 3 rery freely. Dawn, along with Oxton, did six furlongs in lmin lßsec, the first five being taken at a rare bat. Kitchenmaid, looking nice and mellow, easily cc\erecl half a mile in 51£ sec. Munjeet (J M'Coinbs) reeled off three furlongs in 40sec, and Ballarat did five furlongs in lmin 4 3-sseo. Useful, work was got through by Sister Anne, All Red, Loftus, and Cross Battery, whilst Buccleuch may gallop later oa in the day. Of the work dono by other candidates, useful iorm was shown by Gawain, four furlongs in 51s;c ; al c o Prism, Nukutuhi and Sir Artegal the same distance in the same time ; Finery clipped a second off this; and Aborigine and Separator half a second. Gravitation and North Head equalled Finery's go, whilst Chantress showed galloping ability by covering thres furlongs in 38see. Advantage moved pleasingly in registering 52sec for a similar journey, time which Suttee and Vardo improved upon by half a second. Prosser's and Cutt's lengthy teams did light work of a useful character.
