ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES.
The population of the Dominion has gained for Hie year 5730 persons from without, being excels of arrivals over departures. The- actual arrivals were 36,108 and the 30,378. Of the arrhals 7449 came from tho United Kingdom .and 2446 returned jto it; th£ gain from that quarter of th 6 globev being 5003. Australia sent 26,916 people, but withdrew 25,848. It is reasonable to asumo that leckoned in theae arrivals and departures aro many passengers to and from t*ie- Continent rind the United Kingdom. Tho same- may apply in some slight degree to arrivals of 753 from Fiji and 585 departures for those Islands, as they may be joining ov leaving the- Vancouver steamer at Suva^ or making the round trip between Australia and New Zealand, via Fiji. The majority of travellers wero British, -tho arrivals being 34.8Q4. from British possessions, and 1304 from foreign cour.tries..
