At the Supreme Court this morning Richard Daniels, the Town Clerk at Marton, who pleaded guilty to the embezzlement of £700 of the borough funds, was brought up for sentence. His counsel stated that he had been Town Clerk for three years, and came from the South Island, where he had carried on business as stockbroker. Through the failure of the boom he was left with £600 or £700 debts. Accused was sentenced to one year's imprisonment.
