BAZAARS AT NEWTOWN.

O Mr. D. Goldie, of Auckland, who is one of the leaders of the Primitive Methodist Church in New Zealand, this afternoon opened a two-days' bazaar which has been organised by the Primitive Methodists of South Wellington as a means of raising funds for reducing the debt upon the church in Donald M'Leanstreet. A largo amount of M'ork, of a plain and fancy nature, has been prepared by the ladies of the church for pale during the geason,.and it is all neatly displayed in the ha.l. Ac entertaining programme, including numerous competitions of a diverting kind, has been prepared for this evening. A feature of the entertainment will be a display of gymnastics to be given by pupils of the Wellington Physical Training School, under the direction of Mr. Dovey. The Nowtown Brass Band is to contribute musical selections. Another interesting programma has boon prepared for tomorrow evening. The ladies of St. Thomas's Sewing Society have been working for months past in preparing articles for a sale of work which was opened this afternoon in St. Thomas's Schoolroom by the Mayor (Hon. T. W. Hislop). The sale is lo conclude to-morrow evening, and the proceeds are to be devoted to the general funds of tho church and .parish. The various atulls are well laden not only with articles of needlework, plain and ornamental, but also with other things useful and decorative. For this evening a specially-prepared concert is to be given, and an entertainment is also to be given to-morrow night. Mr. W. H. P. BarbeT, M.H.R., this afternoon opened a modest salo of work organised by the members of the Trinity Ladies' Guild and .the Young Peoples Social Club. The sale, which is to close on Friday evening, is beirtg held in the schoolroom at the rear o£ the Trinity Wesley Church, Nowtown. A feature of the display at this sale is a collection of epring flowers and pot plants. There are numerous other articles, always to bo met with at such -affairs, on oalc. A number of cookery compatitions are being held, and to-night there will be 'hat-trimming and -other -amusing contests. To-night, also, ths young men of the club aro to give a gymnastic display, and the exhibition will bo varied with musical and other items. A special programme is Iwing arranged for to-mor-row evening. The proceeds of the Bale are to be divided between the parsonage and tho Social Club funds. The Government is negotiating for a site for a coal depot at Wellington, for the salo of State Conl. MeEsr3. Sidey, Mecch and Co. advertise that they will eel! at thoir rooms tomorrow, commencing at 1.30, piano, offico and household furniture, by order of the bailiff of tho Stipendiary Magistrate's Court and other vendora. There will bo a gaslight display of tho goods on Tluuvday evening. To-morrow, at 2 o'clock, Messrs. W. 11.
