The Commandant of the Forces is attending the Mananatu Mounted Rifles camp at Palmeruton. For the information of candidates for entry as naval cadets in the British Navy tho Minuter for Defence gazettes revised regulations. Seven service cadetships will bo given by tho Admiralty to sons of army aud navy ollicers who have been killed m action or aro in actual t>arvice, and six caduUbips are to be given to cons of gonl'.emon in the colonies on the recommendation, of tho Secretary of Ntato for tho Colonies. Other appointments will be made by limited competition. Tlu» attention of applicants for nominations for cadctships is drawn to tho necessity for applications for any year i caching tho Defence Department not later than tho Ist October of the preceding year, and also that tho local examinations will no longer be h«.d m March, July, nnd December, as heretofore, but some weeks earlier according to the distance of Iho particular station from tho United Kingdom
