OBITUARY. MR. JOHN WALTER.
' UNITED ■PBEBS ASSOCIATION. | (Received November 5, 10.15 a.m.) * London. 4th November. Tbe death is announced of Mr. John Walter, principal proprietor of The Times. [Mr. John Walter was the eldest son of another John Walter, who was for Borne time member for Berkshire. The John Walter who has just died was born in 1818, took his M.A. degree at Oxford, and graduated at the bar. He represented Nottingham in the House of Commons during 1847-59 and 1868-85. Mr Walters' grandfather was the founder of the Times, printing its first issue on lßt January, 1788, and his father it was who made the position of the paper by scouring the best available talent for its staff and contributors. The present Mr. Walter caused to be built the fine new offices of The Times. J
