(Reoeived November 5, 0.15 p.m.) Melbourne, This Dat. A shoemaker named Toner quarrelled with and murdered his wifo at Elsternwick, almost cutting her head off. A prisoner in Sale Gaol attacked a warder, took his keys, and escaped. The governor of the gaol attempted to intercept him, but was knocked down and his skull fractured. He is now in a precarious condition. The prisoner was afterwards re-captured. AD4LAIDE, THIB DAT. A labourer named Pat man, living at Ororoo, shot his wife dead, and when arrested himself, dropped lifeless — it is supposed from the effects of poison. BRISBANE, This Dat. In connection with the English cable message as to land grant railways, a member of the Ministry states that under the recent land legislation the land grant railway system is rendered impracticable. Hobabt, This Dat. Sir Edward Braddon has replied favourably to Mr. Kingston's proposals re Federation.
