TENNIS.

VINCENT TOURNAMENT AT CLYDE.

A form of transport competition that is new to Wellington was commenced last week in the running of "community cars', in opposition to the trams on all the main runs to Island Bay, Minimal-, Roseneatb, Hataitai, Kelburn, and Karon. No charge will bemadoby these cars, but each will be fitted with a collection box, and passengers may please themselves what fare they pay. The cars will pick up or set down passengers between destinations, It is nnderstond that two taxi companies are interested in the scheme, as well as a number of owner drivers of taxi cars. Some time ago '•community buses" were tried on the Hutt road, running in opposition to the duly licensed machines, but the freedom which their proprietors enjoyed from the restrictions imposed by Wo Motor Omnibus Act disappeared when the collection box idea was broadened to become straight-out fare collection.
