Mr and Mrs C. J. Harming Snr, left Clyde yesterday on a motor trip to Lake Te Anau. Miss Cora Stevens, of Timaru, is the guest of Miss H. Keddell, Galloway. Miss Rose Hinton of Invercargill, who has been staying at the Vicarage for a holiday, left for home via Dunedin by express last Saturday. Mr Simpson, Postmaster at Alexandra, is at present enjoying his annual leave. Mr Russell, of the local staff, is acting P. M. The Vicar of All Saints (Rev. G- A. Dawson), Tapanui, leaves next month for England, for the purpose of visiting his parents. Mr H. I tucker (superintendent of the mail branch of the chief post office, Dunedin) has retired on superannuation and is now a resident of Clyde. Prior to severing his connection with the Post Office Mr Tucker was the recipient of a handsome dinner service from the staff ■ Mr and Mrs T. AMooney and family, who have taken up residence in Alexandra, are no strangers to Central Otago. Mr Mooney was for some years on the staff of the Dunstan Times, while his wife is a native of Clyde, being a sister of Mr W. Gye. Mr Mooney is a linotype operator; who until joining the 'Alexandra Herald' was employed on the staff of the Timaru Herald'. Mr Thos Ball, district engineer of the P. W D., paid a visit to Central Otago last week. Messrs Pntehard, Clark and Maxwell, school inspectors, made a visit of inspection of the Central Schools last week. Mr Sutherland, Invercargill, is at present on a visit to Clyde, fie is interested in mining and is having a look around the district. A familiar and popular figure in Central Otago for many years was, and still is, Mr Jas Sutherland, one of Craig & Co's well-known "whips", and for some years, and until the Coy. gave up business, the manager of that big concern. He now resides in Dunedin, but still has a soft spot in his heart for the Sunny Central, and despite the fact that he is "no chicken," he cannot resist the call and pays periodical visits- He is always welcome. After spending a few days at Cromwell, our old friend came on to Clyde where he was the guest of Mr and Mrs John Smart. Mr Sutherland, who we are pleased to say is looking remarkably well, assures us that he has had a very happy time renewing old associations. A shocking double fatality occurred nearby Waihola on Wednesday last when two men, Mr Cooper of Mosgiel, a taxidriver and a married man with a wife and five children, and Mr Fraser, manager of Wright, Stephenson & Co's branch at Oamaru, were killed as the result of a motor car smash. It appears that the car, containing the two victims of the accident, and Messrs Cecil Hazlett of Dunedin, and Mr Leith, of Mosgiel, was returning from a trip to the Lakes In negotiating a rather sharp bend the car swung out and struck a telegraph post, the impact being so severe as to literally tear off the side of the machine. Messrs Fraser and Cooper were killed outright, but the others escaped injury. The news of the death of Mr Ned Moran on Tuesday last was a tremendous shock to his many friends and quite a gloom was cast over the whole district. The popular head of a tine family, there was no man more esteemed and respected than was the deceased gentleman. Of a particularly happy and kindly disposition *' Ned" was a great favourite with both young and old, and his passing is profoundly mourned by a large circle of friends. As reported in our last issue, Mr Moran had undergone an operation in Dunedin for some internal complaint, and on Monday morning was reported to be doing as well as could be expected. Unfortunately there was a sad and sudden change and in a few hours he had passed away. In view of the fact that the departed was so universally beloved it was not surprising to see such a large attendance at the funeral at Omakau on Thursday last when the Rev. Father Spillane performed the last sad rites. To Mrs Moran and family we extend our heartfelt sympathy in their great loss of ' a lovins husband and father,
