While play lacked finish, there was evidence that some keen matches are to be seen this season. Sydenham had an easy win over Harewood Air Force by 6-2. The most interesting match of the evening was between Army and East Christchurch B. The service team comprised all well-known players, and. matched with one of the city’s leading teams, they produced thrilling water polo. Smart work round both goals kept the score down to Army X, East Christchurch B 0. but there were some brilliant long shots. East Christchurch A beat Christchurch United, 3-2. The game was notable for fine back-hand work by United players, but greater speed and agility gave the game to East Christchurch A. Linwood beat Wigram Air Force, 1-0. The game was patchy and the players obviously lacked practice. Spreydon beat Elmwood by default.
