SOLICITOR ARRESTED IN SYDNEY
FORMER LEADER OF NEW GUARD
ALLEGED CONSPIRACY TO DEFRAUD
SYDNEY, June 9. A mild sensation was caused in political and legal circles last night by the arrest of Colonel Eric Campbell. aged 45, a solicitor, and the former leader of the New Guard; Brigadier-General Herbert William Lloyd, aged 54, the member for Mosman in the Legislative Assembly; and Richard Arthur Duesbury, an accountant, on a charge that between August, 1933, and May, 1938, they conspired to cheat and defraud Dumonier Laboratories, Ltd., of large sums of money, and to defraud that company and other persons who should be entitled to enforce their rights to obtain payment of unpaid capital of 19s a share on 4500 shares. On their appearance in the City Police Court to-day the three accused were remanded till June 23. Colonel Campbell is chairman and managing director of Mount Morgan, Ltd.
