HUNDREDS KILLED IN LANDSLIDES
Tragedy in Himalayas SEVEN VILLAGES WIPED OUT (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (Received September 11, 10.2 p.m.) LONDON, September 11. The Bombay correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that hundreds of lives were lost in great landslides which completely wiped out seven Himalayan villages in the Garhwal district There were no survivors.
The first inkling of the tragedy was when human bodies, carcases of animals, and wreckage began to drift down from the Himalayas on the flood-swollen waters of the Ganges. The landslides apparently occurred at night, overwhelming the villagers while they slept.
