SKELETON BUS SERVICE
- —- TRANSPORT TO WAINONI COMPLAINT AGAINST TRAMWAY BOARD A complaint of poor service on the Wainoni bus route was received and supported at a meeting of the Heathcote County Council last evening. It was alleged that Tramway Board officials had promised to maintain the service given previously by the InterCity firm, but that instead the board had reduced -it to a skeleton time- ' table, and yet increased the rate. The council received the complaint from the , Avondale Links Company, Ltd. The company drew attention to the increase in its tramway rate from 13s Id to £1 4s 9d, and the inconvenience which members of the Avondale Golf Club suffered through the skeleton service provided by the Tramway Board. . The service, it was contended, was considerably below the excellent one given by the Inter-City Motor Service. It meant that members without cars had to depend on ' getting rides from those who had. The chairman of the council, Mr W. ■ W. Scarff, said he thought the com- : plaint was justified. The chairman of i the Tramway Board, Mr J. K. Archer, and the general manager, Mr H. E. : Jarman, had promised that the service • would not be curtailed. Now it had been cut down, and the rate inCr. A. G. Williams said that people i had to travel by other means, and the j board suffered. : It was decided to send a copy of ] the letter to the board, and to remind : the chairman of his promise.
