A. & P. ASSOCIATION.

• ; ELLESMERE. Preparations for the annual spring show, to be hold on October 18th, were set in train at a meeting of the General Committee of the Ellesmere Agricultural and Pastoral Association, held at Leoston on Thursday, and presided over by Mr H. Schnelle. A resolution of sympathy was carried with the relatives of the lata Mr Arthur Greenwood. Messrs lan Buchanan and 0. Bowis were elected members. The Mayfield A. and P. Association asked support for a resolution protesting against any attempt to import stock from England while foot-and-mouth disease was prevalent there. _ ■ Mr John Brooks said that the Department of Agriculture was fully alive to tne risks and he did not think it likely that the restrictions would be relaxed. He moved, however, tbat the resolution should be supported, this being carried. ~ . The president mentioned that consideration of the question of assisting with the. Canterbury A. and P. Association's Winter Show had been held over from the annhal meeting. It was not considered likely that the district would have a bay of its own, but he thought all Ellesmere exhibits should be kept together. It might be possible to have an Ellesmere bay at next year's show. Mr John Brooks moved that tho Elles.mere district should have a part in the Mid-Canterbury bay, as was done lastrear. This was carried. The following Winter Show sub-committee was appointed:—Messrs A. McPherson, John Brooks. R. T. McMillan, J. Aldridge, F. Rowell, A. E. Withell, I. McGill, R G.'McOlure, H. G. Chamberlain, W O. Rennie, G. W. R. Osborne, H. McLenaghen, W. H. Abbott, and the president. The secretary stated that members who had undertaken to collect outstanding subscriptions and so forth had gathered in £66" 16s 6d, reducing the overdraft to. £134 Is Bd. If all outstanding amounts were paid in there would still be. a debt of £l6 odd. The suggestion was made by Mr F. Rowell that the Association should conduct a ball in order to reduce its debt. He estimated that £IOO could be realised. The proposal was held over for consideration at the next meeting. . . . ~ Mr Rowell' commented upon the unsightly condition of the disused County Council gravel reserve at the entrance- to the Show Ground. He thought a suggestion should be made to the Council that the reserve should be beautified, ■or that "it be handed over to the Association to beautify. It would be possible to make a better entrance to the Show Ground than the present one if the Association secured the reserve. ' It was agreed that Mr Rowell should interview the Council -suggesting that some steps be taken to improve the appearance of the reserve. ' =?; t
