IN THE RIVER.
ELDERLY MAN'S FALL. A loud cry of "He's in the stream" drew a large crowd to the Oxford terrace side of the Avon shortly after six o'clock last evening.
.An elderly man, who had celebrated the holidays unwisely, had lost his balance near the Madras street bridge, and. fallen down the river, bank into the stream. He lay in about 18 inches of water, and had ne not been quickly pulled out he would most likely have been drowned, for he made no effort to get out himself. A sympathetic by-stander, using his pulling power, dragged the man to the pathway. A taxi was sent for, but a fresh difficulty was encountered, as the celebrant had forgotten hft address.
