CLOUDBURST.
FLOOD NEAR GERALDINE. On Sunday afternoon there was a cloudburst on the Tuis, a hill with an altitude of some 1500 feet, which rises at the head of Gapes'a Valley, its flanks reaching from Beautiful Valley to To Moana. The deluge scarred the hillside, and the water poured down Maori Gully, and the stream which joins the Te Moana river from that <Milly rose 15 feet in a few minutes. The' water reached to the flooring of Mr Walker's residence, and his and adjacent properties were flooded, some sheep being drowned and crops of turnips and rape suffered severely. Other creeks flowing lower down Pleasant Valley were also in high flood, and some country was inundated, but there was no serious damage. It is reported, however, thai in many places crops were laid low by the rain, and in one place the grain looks as though a heavy roller had passed over it. Some fine-looking crops, however, escaped injury.
