ASHBURTON SCHOOL SITE.

W I SCHOOL COMMITTEE'S APPLICATION. The Ashburton school site came before the Education Board again yesterday, when a letter was received from Mr W. G. Hillier, chairman of the Ashburton School Committee, stating that the committee v would be pleased to meet the Minister of Education, and hoping

that the Board, would Use its best endeavours to see that the Minister conferred with the oommitte before any deputation was allowed to meet him. It would then be the committee's intention to take him to the school where the committee would meet iiim, and have the whole matter discussed quietly. The committee hr|i done.,ah they could to find a more central site, but their efforts had failed. They had no ulterior motive in trying to get another site, but they thought that as it was decided to build a new school, it would be advantageous if a more central site oould be obtained, as the present one was\almost on the edge of the town boundary. Under the circumstances the committee felt that the whole question should now be left with the Board. The visit from the Minister would be appreciated, .and the site and other matters relating to -ne school could then be gone carefully into on the spot. The Board decided to try to meet thp committee's wishes as far as possible. 1 ' —
