KAIAPOI.

The fortnightly meeting of the Kainpoi Borough Council was held last evening. Present—The Mayor and all the councillors. A resolution was received from the Institute Committee, offering the property and Library, on condition it,.was made .1 public libra rv in honour of the Coronation. The matter was deferred, in order to obtain solicitor's opinion. The Hon. D. Buddo wrote, stating that £ for L would bo given, up to £250, paid out of the borough funds, or subscribed by tho public, towards tho Fire Brigade station and public library, but no subsidy would ba made on any mouey raised by loan. The Mayor stated that he had replied, asking for further information as. to whether a subsidy would be paid on part of the dbst of the building if the Council raised a loan on another part. The Fire Brigade intimated that they wero no longer sending representatives to the Oddfellows' Hall, as they had no authority in the building, and that there were no fire appliances. Tho opinion was expressed that the brigade should continue to attend, and report tho matter to the Life-Saving Committee for investigation. Mr C. Henderson offered to erect a temporary traffic bridge if the Council provided thirty pine trees for piles, made a grant of £10, and allowed him to levy a toJl of 2s 6d for motor-cars, ls 6d for twohorse vehicles, ls for single-horse vehicles, and Id for foot-passengers. The matter was deferred to a special meeting. The Mayor reported on the Council's visit to the Dromore reserve. The country was very dry, but the reservo was improving considerably in value, and was being well formed. Receipts £108 Gs, overdraft £281 12s Bd, accounts for payment £136 5s Gd, credit of channelling £15G 19s lid, gas account £o_ 3s.
