WOOLSTON.
The fortnightly meeting of the Woolston Borough Council was held on
Monday. Present: —The Mayor (Mr McGregor Wright), Crs. Radcliffe, Crawford, Counland, Woods, Taylor, Graham, More, and Wilkinson. The Finance Committee reported receipts since previous meeti n_ £136 18s Bd, credit bank balance £265 19s 2d, temporary loans £680, credit loau account £35 l4s 3d, credit supplementary loan £1621 7s 7d, and recommended accounts for payment amounting to £100 4s lOd. The clerk was directed to notify owners of vehicles engaging in heavy traffic that the by-law would be enforced if the fees were not paid within 28 days. No action was taken in regard to the Wellington town clerk's letter on the question of superannuation. A man of the borough, compiled from latest surveys by Mr J. Mather, was received. The clerk was instructed to give the owner of a property in Barton street notice to abate a nuisance within 24 hours, not complied with to place the matter in the solicitors' hands. An opinion from the Council's solicitors in regard to pollution of the Heathcote river by tanneries and other works was referred to the new Council. A claim for compensation for stiv.t widening was referred to the Ctu.,,ils solicitors. It was decided to ask the Woolston Band to play on the rotunda on Sunday next. The next meeting of the Council was fixed for Wednesday, 19th inst.
