ANGLING-NOTES.
The fishing telegrams received at the local agency of the Tourist* Department yf *>- terday were to the effect that the Rakaiit, Rangitata, Waitaki and Waimakariri rivers were in good for fishing. At the beginning of this week cix fish weighing 32£lbs were taken at the. mouth of tlie Selwyn by Mr L. Biggin.9. Mr H. Webb also got half-a-dozen nice trout, and several other anglers were more or less successful.
Fishing near White's bridge with live bait, Mr E. Smith, of White's .bridge, recently caught two trout, one weighing 1411b and the other Bilb.
Fishermen will be glad to know that the 'South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society has recently opened up the mouth of that favourite stream, 'the Opihi. As a result big fish have bten coming up freely ever since, and several good hauls have been made On Saturday night Mr P. Sealer (Timaru) landed a fine specimen' of the fiinale fish, weighing 19£lbs. This is tlw» largest recorded this season. - The Kangitata, Temuka- and Opihi are at present teeming with small fish, and anglers can count on excellent sport a* any ford in these streams. One angler last evening landed 22 fish, averaging l£lbs each. Tho Milford lagoon recently forced an opening into the sea below Temuka, and numerous fish will no doubt be freed, thus improving fishing at the Opihi bar. Of the many fisher folk whipping the Rangitata 'during the past few days, none have been so successful as Mrs W. GAspinall, who on Saturday evening caught three fine trout from that, river, one turning the scale at 121bs. Messr3 E. Kichardson (ChrLstchurch) and J. Hay (Kakahu), have been most successful during the holidays, eecuring good bags from the Hne-te-moana and Kakahu. The following are latest arrivals at temuka for Ihe fishirig: —-Mr and Mrs Muggeridge (London). Mr Harold (Wanganui College), Mr A. Brown (Dunedm), Mr OUy Deering (Hawtrey Comedy Company), and "Mr (Nelson).
