CROWN LANDS SALE.
— m At the Land Board room yesterday the (Commissioner -of Canterbury Crown Lands put up' at auction for sale by cash seventyjfour quarter-acre town sections in the town*ships of South Bakaia, Ashburton, and Hinds. - The sale resulted as under.- — ' Township of South Rakaia—Forty-two sec- ! tions, at upset of £5-: thirty-two were passed, no bids being offered. Of the ten sold seven realised the upset, and were purchased by Chasi Melbourne (4), Jas. Santv (2), and Ellen Irvin (1). Three brought £6; and were knocked down to Thos. McGuire. Township of Ashburton—Twelve sections at. upset |of £5 and £7 10s. The former of which: there were seven, were passed in. For the fire at the higher upset there was close competition. The first was knocked down at £11 10s to Sam. Finley. The second and third started at £10 and each rose separately 15s, being ultimately obtained by Rebecca S. Page. The fourth started at the same amount, and bidding was brisk up to £17 ss, at which price Albert Crum- became the purchaser. For the fifth and last competition was especially brisk. The first offer was £15, and in £l,"l0s and 5s bids the comer section rose to £24, at which figure Henry W. Barrett became the owner. Township of Hinds-—Twenty sections, all at the upset of £5 each. Seventeen were passed in. The other three were purchased without opposition by David Miller.
