Wairarapa Were relieved by a free kick, but after some even play a kick by Allen forced the visitors down. After tho kick out first one side and then the other had the better of the play, but it was not until well on in the spell that ftny material advantage was gained, when Bayly, receiving a pass from Humphries, scored a try for Taranaki, Humphries converting. In tho second half Wairarapa made several strong attacks, but the homo team showed good defence and for a long time they managed to keep the visitors from scoring. Shortly before time, however, a mistake by the Taranaki full-back prevented him getting in his kick, and from the subsequent scrummage Haigh got possession and scored for Wairarapa, Emmett placing a goal. During the short time that remained the home team made great efforts to regain their lead, and on one occasion Good all but got over the line, but the danger was removed and no further scoring eventuated, Mr W. J. Crawshaw gave satisfaction as referee. Wrigley, the Wairarapa five-eighths, is specially mentioned as having played a great game, and one Hawera paper said he showed form which should* give him a place in the New Zealand team.
