DUNEDIN, June 25.
The principal prizes won in connection with the farm and field competitions of the Otago Agricultural aud Pastoral Society and Winter Show were presented to-day by the President in the presence of a gathering of exhibitors and others. An address was given before the National Dairy Association by Mr J. B. McEwau, on New Zealand's position as a producer of butter and cheese in relation to it- principal rivals. With more attention and uniformity he believed that in a year or two the quality and general reputation of our cheese would be equal to the finest imported into the Old Country. , He could hardly report bo favourably of the butter, as the varying flavours constituted the greatest difficulty. The practical remedy was to adopt a system of pasteurismg-mitk or cream at the factories so as to got rid of objectionable flavours and secure uniformity. During the two and a half days that the show has been open 14.197 people paid for admission, the takings being £649 fk 6<l.
