THE DEAN CONSPIRACY CASE.
Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. Sydney, December 4. In the conspiracy trial, counsel for the defence cross-examined a Crown witness named Gail at length with a view of proving that the expenses of the solicitor engaged to defend him in the bigamy proceedings brought by his wife were paid by the Crown so as to secure him in this case. Gail admitted that the major portion of his expenses were not paid out of his own pocket, but by the proceeds of a Treasury note, which was handed to him at the Treasury. He, however, denied that the Crown was paying the expenses or that any arrangement had been made between the Attorney-General and his solicitor as suggested by counsel for the defence.
