NEW MAIL CONTRACT.
+ . London, Oct. 13, Sir F. D. Bell is in treaty with the Canadian Pacific Company in reference to the mail service to New Zealand. The company have expressed their willingness to deliver mails in Brisbane under 35 days : from London, and to establish branches at Fiji and Auckland for a moderate subsidy. It is expected that the provisions of the new mailoontract will include twopenny postcards between England and • Australia, to commence in January. The postage on newspapers will remain unaltered, and that on postcards via Brindisi will be fixed at threepence. Mr Cecil Eaikes, PostmasterGeneral, stated that if the colonies are agreeable he will propose, should the mail contract be ratified by Parliament, the rate of postage by direct mails to' Australia should be reduoed to 4d per half ounce.
