WOODVILLE.
Messrs Campbell and Scott held their first auction sale at Woodville on Saturday last in their mart, McLean-street. The a> tendance was certainly the largest that had ever been seen at an auction in this district The auctioneer commenced with the stores, etc., belonging to the Public Works Department. The bidding was very keen throughout. The lots as they were put up fetched astonishingly high prices ; and each lot found a purchaser. Immediately at the close of the Public Works sale the auctioneer commenced selling the fruit trees. Here, as in the former sale, the prices ranged high, and, with the exception of about forty trees, the whole of the lots, comprising some hundreds of fruit and other trees, were knocked down. Mr Scott closed a very heavy day's sale at 5.30 p.m.. and from noon, the time of starting, had brought no fewer than 500 lots under the hammer. There is no doubt that the great success of the day's sale was in every way due to the manner in which the auctioneer had arranged each article so as to show up to advantage.
