FATAL GUN ACCIDENT.

A fatal gun accident is reported from the Bungaree district, Victoria. Two youths named James I Gfowlind, aged 15 years, and Thomas Turner, aged 18 years, proceeded to Bungaree from Ballarat East on a shooting excursion. They were armed with a fowling piece, which Gowlind carried at half cock. Mr Brough, a resident of Clark's Hill, met the lads during their excursion, and on observing the hammer of the gun at half cock, suggested that it should be lowered, otherwise an accident might happen. Gowlind thereupon placed placed his thumb on the hammer to lowsr it on the nippla when it slipped and caused the fowling piece to explode. The charge entered Turner's left "breast, shattering it to a fearful extent. The unfortunate young man was plaped in a cart, and with Gowlind acting as driver, ho was taken towards Ballarat for the purpose of securing surgical assistance, but he died on the way to the city.
