A WOMAN'S DARING DEED.
• A fire of a serious nature occurred . on Tuesday night at an oil shop in Brandon Street, Walworth. The • proprietor, was peen^tq .run intp the < street carrying a burning mat, and i immediately afterwards the whole shop was in flames. The first floor of the house was occupied by a < widow and her family, and the '< second floor by a Mr Moore, his 1 wife, and two children* On the first alarm being given Mrs Moore took her childrenvin her arms, and with some difficulty placed them in safety on an adjoining roof. This done she wrapped a woollen comforter over her mouth and nose, and in':. spite: of the- dense; imass.es of smoke which had by this time penetrated to the upper rooms, descended ' into the burning house to warn the lodgers on the first-floor of; ifjheir danger. Luckily they werejalkout at the time, In her, plucky- efforts for their welfare Sirs Moore was nearly suffocated, and only regained the roof with great difficulty by crawling on her hands and lrnees. The fire was not subdued. until, the building with its contents was nearly consumed.
