It was <iniiouneed this evening that Dr. James has decided to relinquish the jKisition of rector of Canterbury College from January 31. He will retain the chair of history at the college. Dr. H. G. Denhain was elected his suecosor.
Dr. wa* born in Christchurch in I*< 2 Among his earlier posts he was Aiiglisli and commercial master at Auckland College and Grammar School. In 1901 ii€ became lecturer in political economy «nd constitutional history at Canterbury College, ond in 1906 director of studies in commerce. He was appointed rector in 1!>28. Dr. Hight represented tlie -New Zealand Government at the World^Economic Conference at Geneva in 1927. He is the author of numerous educational works largely used in NewZealand and Australia.
Dr. Denham has been professor of chemistry at Canterbury College Christchurch, since 1923, and deau of the faculty of science since 1925. He graduated from the University of New Zealand and then studied further at Liverpool and Heidelberg. In 1912 he joined the staff of the University of Queensland and in 1921 became professor of inorganic chemistry at Capetown University, subsequently returning to New Zealand.
