LAND ARMY.
x INTENSIVE TRAINING. NINE THOUSAND VOLUNTEERS. Recruits for the Women's Land Army have been pouring in during the last few days, says a writer in an English paper. About 9000 young women are enrolled as applicants, and several hundred more volunteers are awaiting interviews. A moving spirit in the land army is Lady Dcrunan. Mrs. Walter Elliot was missing from the recruiting bureau of the Land Army for a while. She was at Radiolympia being televised in connection with the recruiting campaign. About 50,000 volunteers for the Land Army are aimed at. Members who have no knowledge of farm work will be sent for training to different institutes and colleges all over the country. A month's intensive training is considered sufficient even for those with no experience whatever. Khaki and Green. Uniforms, provided free, are all ready for the land girls. They consist of khaki whipcord breeches, thick stockings and shoes, khaki shirt, bottle-green pullover, khaki overall and a hat with "Women's Land Army" in lettering on the front.
Last September a number of women offered themselves for training in land work to the land service scheme of the Women's Farm and Garden Association. Under this scheme about 500 women took holiday courses. They have now joined the Land Army,
