PRESENTATIONS.
At a farewell gathering to Mr. and Mrs. V. Houghton in the Papakura Methodist Church Hall, the Rev. I. M. Raynor, in making a presentation of books on behalf of the Church and congregation, paid a high tribute to Mr. Houghton's work for a long number of years as Sunday school superintendent, trustee, member of quarterly board and circuit youth council.
Mrs. Raynor made a presentation to Mrs. Houghton of a leather handbag. She was also the recipient of a beautiful bouquet. Eulogistic speeches were also given by the Mayor, Mr. S. Evans, circuit steward, and Mr. G. Buchan, for the young people.
At a well attended dance held in Titirangi to Celebrate the official opening of the Titirangi tennis courts, the opportunity was taken by residents to present to Mr. and Mrs. W. Crook, who are leaving the district, a silver tea service, in recognition of their services to the district. Thanks are due to tihe French Bay Sports Association and others who assisted the Titirangi Tennis Courts committee in making both the afternoon and evening functions a success. USEFUL HINTS. Light oak can be cleaned with warm water to which a little amigonia has been added; when dry, rub with a very little castor oil and finish with a warm duster.
Bristles of brooms and brushes should never be wiped or washed with soap as it makes them soft. Dissolve a knob of soda in boiling water. Dip the brushes in and out until bristles look clean. Rinse them in cold water, shake well and dry out of doors.
