LODGE ACTIVITIES.

DISTRICT MEETINGS.

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED.

The Endeavour Lodge, 1.0. G.T., held a farewell social evening to Bro. J. Peacock. chief templar, who is taking a trip to the Old Country. All the 1.0. G.T. lodge.-; of the district were well represented. Bro. J. Chadderton, lodge deputy, wished Bro. Peacock Ixni voyage and a safe return, whilst the district chief templar extended good wishes on behalf (if the district lodge. A presentation was made l>y Kn>. Chadderton of a fountain pen. with which it was hoped Bro. Peacock would write and tell of his experiences. The evening proved a very pleasant one, items being given by Mr. Tinlock. Sister E. Pace and Sister Ely. (James and competitions, followed by supper, helped to pass the time away all too quickly.

The Loyal Lodge. M.U.T.0.0.F., met on Tuesday last, a good attendance being presided over by the Noble Grand, Bro. ('. •Cunningham. Visitors from Cambridge and Hamilton were welcomed with the honours of the Order. Two new members were initiated, the ceremony being well carried out. At the close of 1 lie business, a very happy social evening was held, dancing and music occupying the time. Bro. S. Kitt gave some well-received vocal items and the social committee were responsible for a very nice supper.

The Endeavour Lodge, T.0.G.T., celebrated the tenth anniversary of its reopening with a well-attended social evening in the Eden Terrace Methodist Hall. Sister E. Cant, C.T., welcomed the visitors, who included members from Enterprise and Roskill Lodges. Fraternal greetings and congratulations were extended by the District Chief Templar, Bro. l'ace, Bro. Harvey, C.T., Enterprise, r>lo. Ardeni, P.D.C.T", and others. A very enjoyable programme was left in the hands of the D.C.T. and a happy timo was spent by all. Sister K. True and Miss Ely gave vocal items and Sister E. Pace Jin elocutionary item. Games and competitions caused much amusement and supper brought a most successful evening to a close.

The Enterprise Lodge. No. 80, 1.0.0. T., held a very successful kitchen evening, the guests of honour being Sister Joyce Hardwicke and Mr. J. Y'oung. There was nn excellent attendance and the C.T.. lio. Harvey, expressed the good w !~he.s of the members to the yonii<! couple. He then handed over to the lodge deputy to conduct a (social and games night. A good assortment of parcels containing useful kitchen article* was presented iby the C.T. to the guests, who each .replied in suitable terms, thanking the members for their kindness. Supper brought a very pleasant time to a close.

The Loyal Kaitaia Lodge M.U.T.0.0.F., met in the Masonic Hall on Tuesday evening, Bro. E. W. Hansen, N.G., presiding ove a good attendance. Bros. Powell. P. 0.. Hansen and Parker gave their reports on the recent district conference, held in Auckland, and were warmly thanked. Three nominations for membership were received. In the social hour which followed the business session, a gift competition was won by Bro. Leonard. Dancing occupied the remainder of the time with an interval for supper. During the evening, arrangements were made to receive and entertain the Koa Rebekah Lodge on next meeting night.

I The Star of Paeroa Lodge, U.A.0.D., met on Monday last, the Arch Druid, Bro. E. V. Slyfield. being in the chair. The members regretted to learn that the secretary. Bro. .T. T. Brown, had met with an accident, and Bro. Cave acted in his place. The A.D.B.'s presented their reports on the sick members, all of whom were making good progress. The report of the delegates to Grand Lodge was held over until next meeting. Arrangements were finalised for the installation of the A.D.. Bro. Slyfield, as district president, and a large crowd is expected. At the close of the meeting, some enjoyable games of indoor bowls were played.

At the last meeting of the Loyal Awn Lodge. M.U.T.0.0.F.. the N. 0., Sister J. Smith, presided over an excellent attendance. One new candidate was initiated and welcomed. The lodge wae. honoured by a visit from the D.G.M.. Bro. W." F. Bates, who was making his first official visit since his installation. He was accompanied by the district treasurer, Bro. J. Allan, and Bro. R. T. Seott, C. T. Stanley and H. V. Hampton, of the management committee. Several visiting delegates to the annual conference were also welcomed, including Director Bro. Gow, P.D.G.M., Bro. Barnes, P.D.GM., Bro. Iggo, 1.P.0.G.M. of the North Canterbury district. E. MoFarlane, 1.P.D.G.M.. Wellinsrton district, Bro. Jorgensen. P.G.L, Kilbirnie Lodge, and Bro. Holmes, P.G.L., Ricearton. All of these gave very interesting talks on the work and progress of their lodges and districts. Other visitors present, were members from the Pokono. Mntamata. Pt. Chevalier, Lynndalc and Good Intent Lodges. The evening proved a very interesting one and was greatly enjoyed by all present.

The usual meeting of Gordon Tent, T.0.R., wjfe held at Onehunga, the Chief Ruler, Sister B. Wagner presiding over a- good attendance of members and officers. The business was light and was soon disposed of. The P.C.R., Bro. W. Ireland, was congratulated upon his election as D.S.J.T., and in reply asked for the increased co-operation and interest of all the adult members in furthering the interests of the juveniles, and particularly in making the Bird of Promise Tent a model for all the other tents in No. 84 district. Bro. H. Campling the retiring D.S.J.M., was thanked for his great work for the juveniles in the past and bespoke the same assistance for his successor. Owing to the absence of one of the delegates to the District Council meeting it was decided to defer their reports until next meeting. After the tent had been duly closed a. visit was received from the tfpsnin Lodge, No. BS. 1.0.0. F., who attended in good numbers to play for Hip Mulhollaiul Bowling Rooster. These friends were welcomed by the C.R. in a few well-chosen words, to which the visiting Noble Grand, Bro. Smithers, suitably replied. During an interval between the games supper was served by the ladies present and thoroughly enjoyed. The result was a win for Gordon by a small margin, so they will continue to "feed" the Rooster for another term. At the close the N.G. thanked the Gordon members for a very happy and enjoyable evening and said they looked forward to the next contest.'

. The. .Star, of. EJUWS.,. met at Morrinsville on Tuesday last, a good attendance being recorded. The secretary, Bro! AHatt. gave a detailed report of the recent Grand Lodge proceedings and stated that no further information had yet come to hand in regard to the Social Security Act and its effect on friendlv societies.

The Star of Newmarket Lodge. U.A.0.D., met in the Alma Street Hall, the Arch Druid, Bio. Todd, being the presiding officer. There was a fairly good attendance and .111 official vfrit was received from the officers and members of the Light of Manukau Lodge, who were present in good numbers. Members were also i:i attendance from Roskill and Auckland Lodges. P.A. Bro. Munroe, the Grand Lodge delegate, gave a very full report of the recent (irand Lodge proceeding, held at New Plymouth. Many points of interest to the members were given and Bro. Munroe spoke in appreciative terms of the cordial manner in which they had been received by the Taranaki members. A hearty vote of thanks wa* accorded to Bro. Munroe for .hie able report.

The Foresters and Oddfellows' Lodges of Matamata, held a combined picnic, the venue being Mr. Scott's property at Raparapa. The 'conditions were ideal and the large crowd present enjoyed themselves to the full with swimming. cricket and athletic sports. The chief winner* were:—Mixed relay, T.0.0.F., 1; A.0.F.. 2. Single Men: R.' Montgomery, 1: D. Montgomery. 2; and S. Fnlker, 3. Married men: D.*Erb. 1; 0. Miklenhall. 2; W. Ever*. :i. Singles ladies: Miss B. Baird, ]; Miss T. Eyres. 2; C. Kruee. 3. Married ladies: Mrs! MiWenhall, 1; Mrs. McCarthy, 2; Mrs. Rowe, 3. Long jump and hop, step and jump: These were both won .by Bro. W. Barlow, with Bro. R. Montgomery and L. Brunton, 3.
