"SHEER NONSENSE."

CITY MILK SUPPLY. RESTRICTION OF OUTPUT. CHEESE MORE PROFITABLE ? "That is sheer nonsense," stated Mr. C. J. Lovegrove, when a statement was made at to-day's meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council that many farmers supplying milk to the city were considering changing to the manufacture of cheese.

The point was raised when two applications for producers' licenses were received, these being for an aggregate of 111 gallons daily. Mr. R. H. Oekleston asked whether any check was being kept on the aggregate supply coming forward. The chairman, Mr. I. J. Goldstine: Actually we are well below the quantity we will require. The view that publicity should be given to the position in an endeavour to secure as many new producers as possible was taken by Mr. E. F. Andrew*. "In view of the statement at a meeting of producers that many farmers were considering swinging over to cheese we fhould get as many new suppliers as possible," he stated. "That is .an absolute twisting of the statement," asserted Mr. Lovegrove. "It is nothing but sheer nonsense, and no such statement was made in the Press." Mr. Rosser: Then my paper must have been a special edition of one copy. Mr. Andrews: Mine, too. Mr. Lovegrove explained that the producers concerned had stated that unless they received more for the production of raw milk they would find it more profitable to sell the milk for cheese. The allegation read into this statement was quite incorrect.
