WAITAKERE PIPE-LINE.
REPAIR WORK BEGUN. A start was made this morning with the work of reconditioning the Waitakere pipe-line, The pipes have been down so long that corrosion and "pitting" has taken place. The steel work has suffered owing to the perishing of the bitumen coating. It will be neceseary to replace a half-mile section with new pipes. The pipes taken out will be reconditioned and used in another section. This work will go on : progressively until the whole line has been treated. , The section selected, for, the first work Is at Glen Eden. Twelve men were put on this morning, and when the work is in full swing employment will be provided for 50 men at standard wapes, the City Council receiving a subsidy from the Unemployment Board.
