J, Hamon is the new member, and replaces Mr. R. Sanft. The successful candidates are: — Votes. C. M. McCullough 401 J. Donald 450 J. Barclay 438 H. W. Parkinson 438 S. Scarborough 419 A. T. O'Domiell 408 W. H. Thomas 395 J. R. Robertson 350 C. F. J. Hamon 340 The voting for the unsuccessful candidates was: R. Sanft, 321; J. E. McLennan, 220; Mrs. N. M. Molesworth, 202. There were eight informal votes. The official count will be made tomorrow. As there are 40 declaration votes to be considered and allocated, if allowed, there is still doubt as to the filial result. The number of votes cast was much smaller than at the last triennial election, this being largely due to the disfranchisement under the Road Boards Act of electors who had not paid their rates. Indignation was expressed by some who were debarred because of not having paid their final quarter's, water rate demand, it being claimed that accounts had not been received until last week. The clerk of the board, Mr. J. H. Reich, who was returning oilicer, stated that legal advice had been obtained, and the board had acted within its rights. All accounts had been sent out in time to give ratepayers seven to ten clays' notice. There was no restriction as to the time by which the accounts had to be paid, and ratepayers were entitled to pay the amounts owing on the clay of election and vote immediately afterwards.
