AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
AUCKLAND CLUB. The tenth annual series of -winter competitions of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club commenced on Saturday in the Outer Domain, when -'000 vards steeplechase, 75 yards sprint, discus throwing and shot putting contests were held in the presence of a good attendance. The members were welcomed by the president, Mr. \V. Morton, who presented a gold niPdal, donated by Mr. H. W. Brien, to J. W. Savidan, in commemoration of his record-breaking performance at the Empire champions' meeting. Kesults : — 75 Yards. —First heat: R. H. Pow 1, J. Prendergast 2, H. S. Roper 3. Time, 8 l-ss. Second heat: H. McNiel 1, L. N. Ross 2. J. Funnell 3. Time, Bs. Third heat: J. Dunn 1 H. F. Rigg 2, N. Burton 3. Time. Bs. Final: .T. Dunn, SJyds, 1; R. H. Pow, BJyds, 2 ; L. N. Ross, 9yds, 3. Time, 7~4-ss, a close finish. 2000 Yards Steeplechase.—A very good contest resulted in A. G. Hill (13s) getting home first in 7.0, with D. Mitchell (255) next at 7.2 and O. D. Mills (28s) third at 7.5. Discus. —a. Sutton (35ft), 127 ft lOin, 1; H. S. Kopcr (40ft), 111 ft Bin, 2; S, A. Hanson (35ft), 102 ft, 3. Shot.—O. D. Mills (llftT, 34ft, 1"; J.
