PROGRESS IN AUCKLAND. j DIFFICULT YEAR AHEAD. • 'j Steady progress, with an increased ' attendance of children, was reported to--0 day at the annual meeting of the Auck--11 land Kindergarten Association. Mr. J, 0 H. Jackson presided. a The twenty-third annual report showed a that the total number of children attending kindergartens during 1930 was 336, ar r increase of 33 on that for the previous " year. The finances showed an improve- » ment off the previous year, receipts from all sources totalling £2871, and exe penditure amounting to £2234. It had , been hoped to open a new kindergarten, for the Point Chevalier district, in e February, but, owing to financial strin- • i gency, the Government subsidy was not 11 available. The strong committee t formed, however, was still in existence, 31 and the scheme had not been aban--3 doned. 3 1 The principal officers were re-elected, ; and Mrs. E. H. B. Milsom was specially ) thanked for her services as vice-presi-dent. A special vote of thanks was . accorded the ladies of. the St. John Ambulance Brigade for their work during 1 the year. • • j An interesting letter was received from Mrs. J. A. Ha'nan, hon. secretary , and treasurer of the Free Kindergarten Union of New Zealand. "The coming year," she said, "will be somewhat of a struggle, owing to the reduction of Government "rants. I feel sure, however, \ that it will stir us all to greater, efforts in furthering the good work." Mrs. . , Hanan added: "You will be glad to hear I I that the Napier Kindergarten is carrying on in the tennis pavilion, the other build- . ing having been destroyed."
