SHAKE AT DISTANCE RECORDED,
(By Telegraph—rress Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The earthquake shock felt in Hawke's Bay this morning was felt feebly in Wellington. A small shake of local origin was felt yesterday afternoon at 4.40.

(By Telegraph.—rrcss Association.) WAIROA (H. 8.), this clay. A severe shock of earthquake was experienced this morning at 11.7, greatly alarming residents. TREMORS IN OPOTIKI. ACTIVITY AT WHITE ISLAND. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) OPOTIKI, this clay. Slight earthquake shocks were experienced in Opotiki yesterday and to-day. Wliite Island was reported to be exceptionally active yesterday. A minor eruption is reported to have occurred on the island this morning. A dense black column of smoke is to be seen rising to a considerable height.
