FIRST INNINGS RESUMED. PONSFORD AND KIPPAX. STEADY SCORING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NELSON, this day. V. Y. Richardson's Australian eleven this morning resumed their first innings in the Dominion, against the Nelson side, which yesterday scored 161. The weather was ideal. Ponsford (24) and Kippax (22) settled down to steady scoring, and 25 runs were added in the first quarter-hour, Kippax being the most prolific scorer. Newman and Hope opened the bowling, and Newman was hard to score otf. At . noon the 6Core was 90 for one wicket (Ponsford not out 34, Kippax not out 31). The century was hoisted after 96 minutes' play, Ponsford being 40 and Kippax 36. The batsmen were playing attractive crickct, alid boundaries were frequent. Searell replaced Newman, and Taylor went on in place of Hope, but the rn,te of scoring was not diminished, the batsmen taking advantage of any opening in the field.
