KEEPING TRUST ACCOUNTS.
Some remarks on the necessity for auctioneers keeping trust accounts were ftiade by the Chief Justice (Sir Charles Skerrett) when summing-up in a criminal case in the Supreme Court at Wellington. His Honor said that throughout the ages, since commercial business existed, an auctioneer had been regarded as in a position of trust. People who handed over their property to hini to be sold were entitled to rely on the fact that he treated himself as a trustee, and that he would keep their money religiously apart from his own; also, that he would pay the sale proceeds to the principal.
